Conexxus In the News

“The biggest message I have for merchants on the fence is that the risk is real, and as more and more stations become compliant, the bigger piece of that fraud pool you will be responsible for, and that cost will become huge — and may be more than the operating profit,” Linda Toth pointed out. “It’s something retailers really need to take a look at now." .....

Conexxus and the International Forecourt Standards Forum (IFSF) launched a joint initiative aimed at creating standardized application programming interfaces (APIs). The move will reduce the time to market, development cost and maintenance overhead of digital transformation. According to Conexxus, it is a key strategy for competing in the increasingly digital landscape of convenience retail.....

How mobile devices, AI and other technologies could upgrade foodservice.  If this future is possible, how do we get there? Gray Taylor, executive director of Alexandria, Va.-based Conexxus, says the key is mobile. “The mobile device is going to be the center focus for the foreseeable future looking 10 years out,” Taylor says. Foodservice has already started transitioning to this new reality.....

Gas stations around the U.S. are rushing to upgrade fuel pumps to accept credit and debit cards with chips after Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. rejected a request to delay a looming deadline to complete the work.  Beginning in October, station operators that haven’t modernized their pumps will face liability for any card fraud.  In a 2019 survey by Conexxus, more than half of participants cited a lack of available software for not having chip technology fully deployed, while about 15% pointed to a shortage of hardware.....

For fuel retailers, the deadline for readying automated fuel dispensers (AFDs) to be EMV-payment compliant is less than a year away, and Conexxus research shows that many businesses lag behind in making the move. Although the major credit card companies pushed back an initial 2017 deadline to October 2020, the Merchant Advisory Group (MAG) warns retailers that another extension isn’t in the works......

Testing and certification have been cited as one of the biggest challenges for EMV chip implementation at the automated fuel dispenser (AFD). With the AFD fraud liability shift slated for October 2020,

It’s critical to the AI.....

With 364 days left to upgrade credit-card terminals at fuel pumps before fraud liability shifts to convenience-store retailers, three experts on the subject of EMV encouraged retailers to get started now during a NACS Show educational session Oct. 2.  In one year, Oct. 1, 2020, liability for lost, stolen or counterfeit cards used at fuel pumps “shifts to the party in the payment chain with the least secure payment technology,” said Linda Toth, director of standards for Conexxus, during the session EMV: Can You Afford Not to Upgrade?

Panel experts warn that now is the time to start the long process of upgrading your pumps to EMV standards. ...Linda Toth, director of standards for non-profit c-store and petroleum market technology advocate Conexxus, said a study by her group found that 58% of retailers who have yet to upgrade believe they won’t make the liability shift deadline. And 25% said they have no idea when they’ll upgrade.  The panel recommended retailers start now and get ahead of the game. Otherwise, they may pay more in fraud paybacks than the cost of the upgrades.....
