ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NACS Magazine member subscribers can now read the association’s award-winning monthly publication in a digital format, either at NACS Online or on a mobile or tablet device.

NACS Updates Category Definitions

Changes include expanding the Automotive, Edible Grocery, Other Tobacco, Wine and Liquor categories to better fit what retailers are selling under those umbrellas.

 

Peapod Growing Sales With Mobile

Virtual grocery stores engage commuters, who spent an average of $10 or more per mobile device-triggered transaction than those who ordered via a computer.

SKOKIE, IL – Online grocer Peapod said its recent mobile ad campaign targeting commuters has generated a huge usage increase in the retailer’s mobile shopping app.

Over the past year, orders involving a smartphone and mobile device grew 50% for the online grocer, with 30% of all visits to Peapod.com now involving a mobile device, reports Supermarket News.

The problem has grown as criminals become more adept at using fake card swipe machines to steal credit and debit card data from fuel pumps and ATMs.

 

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Skimming has become big business. In 2011, skimming cost banks, retailers and consumers $18 billion, HuffingtonPost reports. Many of those skimming cases happened at gasoline station pumps. Sixty-six percent of identity theft were linked to existing credit card or debit card accounts, according to Javelin Strategy and Research.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root, PayPal Partner to Simplify Paying at the Pump

More convenience stores around the world will now be able to offer mobile and digital payments at the pump.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gilbarco Veeder-Root announced today that it is working with PayPal on digital payment and other mobile solutions to be offered to Gilbarco customers worldwide. The initial effort will launch the PayPal payment capability to retailers with Passport point-of-sale. Future developments will bring PayPal solutions to Gilbarco’s growing suite of media and merchandising applications.

PCATS Announces New Board Chairman and 2011 Board of Advisors / Officers

Avsha Klachuk, Director of marketing technology of ALON Brands, Dallas TX,  and 2010   Vice Chairman has assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Advisors of The Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards (PCATS); the convenience and petroleum industry’s technology standards body.  Mr. Klachuk has a long history of advocating and supporting industry standards through his many years involvement with PCATS, including serving as Vice Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Klachuk succeeds Pat Lewis, of Oasis Stores as Chairman.

PCATS Payment System Product Codes v3.4

The PCATS Retail Financial Transactions committee updated and released version 3.4 of the Payment System Product codes.  This new version provides support for electric vehicle charging codes.  The full product code specification is available free of charge to PCATS members.

Industry Technology Pioneer John Hervey Dies
